Campbellsville University baseball alum Chris
Curley will make his first trip to his home state as a Minor
League Baseball player this week as the Rome Braves travel to the
Lexington Legends June 24-28.
Curley signed with the Atlanta Braves as a post-draft free agent
following the 2009 season. He chose to forgo his senior season after
helping to lead Campbellsville to the 2009 NAIA World Series while
hitting .409 with 19 home runs as a junior. He first reported to the
Danville Braves in Virginia last fall, but the season was cut short due
to injury.
After attending extended spring training in 2010, Curley reported
to the Braves' Single A affiliate in Rome, Ga., in mid-May. Curley
collected his first Single A hit in his first at bat, driving in a run
in the Rome Braves May 18 win over the Charleston River Dogs. He has struggled a bit since,
forcing him to only appear in the Braves' lineup against right-handed
hitters. He enters this week's road trip to Lexington hitting .214 with
a double, triple and eight RBIs, while looking for his first pro home run.
Tickets for this week's games in Lexington are only $2 for box
seats, thanks to a special promotion the Legends had June 10-12. With
every win the Legends had that week, this week's box seat ticket was to
be reduced by $2 each. Lexington swept the Delmarva Shorebirds in three
games making a regular $8 box seat ticket available for $2 for each of
the five games that Rome is in town.
