Mr. and Miss Campbellsville Andre Tomaz and Kristi Ensminger
Kristi Ensminger, a 2009-2010 senior Lady Tiger basketball player, was named Miss Campbellsville at the end of the school year, an honor presented to a Campbellsville University graduating senior who best exemplifies the university's typical student - based on scholarship, leadership, character and potential for success.
Ensminger is the fourth Lady Tiger player to receive the honor over the years, joining other former CU women's basketball leaders Andrea Deaton, Jenny Norton and Miranda Ray Denney.
"Kristi
is such a unique person and she has shared her gifts. She is truly a
leader and she leaves such a positive mark on anything she chooses to do," CU head coach Ginger Colvin said.
"Our team was successful because of her leadership. She will be a
success in her future because she is simply a winner. We are all so blessed
to have been a part of her college life."
Ensminger was presented the honor during CU Awards Day the last week of April. She was joined by Mr. Campbellsville, Andre Tomaz, who is a student photographer for University Communications and shot numerous CU sporting events.
"It was an incredible honor to be selected Miss Campbellsville. To me it's not about all the things I've been involved in or anything I've achieved. It's about the university, my teachers and my coaches who have given me the opportunity to make those things possible and to learn and grow as a student and a Christian," Ensminger said.
"I'm so thankful for all the people at CU and throughout the community who have invested in me during my four years here-people that God has used to encourage and equip me to serve Him beyond this university, in a capacity that I never dreamed for myself."
Ensminger, a native of Kingston Springs, Tenn., graduated in May with a degree in psychology and minor in sports management. She was a four-year player for Campbellsville's women's basketball team, serving as team captain in 2009-2010.
On the court, she played in all 130 games scheduled by the Lady Tigers the past four years. She collected 930 points, 672 rebounds, 192 steals and shot 47.5 percent from the field. She came to CU as a point guard, but eventually played every position before finishing her career as a post player. Her efforts earned her a Mid-South Conference All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2008, 2009 and 2010. She was also an Academic All-Conference selection those same years.
Off the court, she was a member of Baptist Campus Ministry (BCM) and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). She helped start a student-athlete-led Bible study called "Crazy Love" during her senior year that involved more than 200 athletes. She also organized a "Hoops for Haiti" event at one of the home basketball games, through which peanut butter and donations were collected. While at CU she also volunteered at a nursing home, worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and has been on a mission trip to Africa. She is preparing for a trip this summer to Haiti.
