Two-time NCCAA triple jump national champion Detrick Biggs competed in a warm-up, so to speak, last week in Louisville at the Cardinal Twilight Meet on May 14. The Campbellsville University junior won the National Christian College Athletic Association national title the week before with a triple jump distance of 48 feet, 1.25 inches and finished third in the four-man competition May 14 with a distance of 47 feet, 1.75 inches.

"I felt pretty good going into the meet. I was trying to get my legs back under me and basically get in the groove of competition since it will be two more weeks until the NAIA," Briggs said.

Briggs, a junior from Louisville, was the only NAIA competitor in the NCAA Division I meet. Michael Johnson of the University of Louisville won the competition with a jump of 50 feet, 10 inches. Briggs is hoping to reach 49 or 50 feet when he travels to Marion, Ind., for the NAIA National Championship meet next week. The triple jump competition is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Friday, May 28.

"I feel very confident about the NAIA. It's all about the mind set you come into the meet with. No matter what happens in the meet, it only takes one jump to win and nothing else matters. I know the Lord will give me all the strength I need so I'm ready for the meet," Briggs said.

Starsha Fant of CU also competed in the Twilight Meet, hoping to qualify for the NAIA Championships in the 400-meter dash. She failed to run below a minute, finishing with a time of 1:00.11.
