PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Fourth-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.) University put on an offensive show in the first half and cruised to a 96-82 win over No. 5-seed West Virginia University Institute of Technology today in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference women’s basketball tournament at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center.

Campbellsville used runs of 17-0 and 12-4 to build a 55-27 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the win.

The Lady Tigers (19-12) advance to Sunday’s MSC semifinals where they will face top-seeded Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College at 1 p.m. ET. The loss ends West Virginia Tech’s season at 13-18.

Campbellsville torched the nets in the first 20 minutes making 62.9 percent (22-of-35) of their shots. Despite cooling off in the second half, the Lady Tigers finished the game shooting 47.8 percent.

The Lady Tigers led 85-58 with 5:36 remaining when the Lady Golden Bears made a late surge to cut the Campbellsville lead to single digits.

West Virginia Tech -- aided by 29 Campbellsville turnovers -- trimmed the lead to 91-82 with 49.8 seconds left. But that was as close as West Virginia Tech would get as the Lady Tigers made their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Campbellsville freshman forward Courtney Danis led four Lady Tigers in double figures with 14 points. Senior guard Jenna Hedges chipped in 13 points and freshman guard Wendi Messer added 12. Freshman Melly Heaton scored 10.

West Virginia Tech senior Rachel Henry scored a team-high 16 points in the loss.
