Campbellsville University finished fifth at the Hanover College Invitational on Saturday, March 27. Detrick Briggs posted the Tigers' best individual finish, taking second place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.00 meters.

Geovanni Popoca helped lead CU by qualifying for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national meet in two events. He was third in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:52.70 and finished seventh in the 1,500 with a time of 4:10.32. Tyler Nilsen also qualified for the NCCAA nationals by setting a school record in the 1,500 with a time of 4:07.24.

In addition to Popoca's third place finish, Nowalk, Calif., native Qualaun Reed was a part of the Tigers other two third place scores. Reed posted a third-place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.69. He also ran the fastest time for CU in the 4x400 relay, posting a 49 second split, as the Tigers set a school-record of 3:30.80. Reed was teamed up with Matt Oliver, Kenneth Johnson and Darren Long on the relay.

CU's big record of the day came in the field, as Dale Kerr became the first Tiger to hurl a discus over 40 meters this year. He set a school record with a throw of  41.18 meters.

Campbellsville's 75 team points came from one second-place finish (8), three third-place finishes (18), four fourth-place finishes (20), five fifth-place finishes (20), two sixth-place finishes (6), one seventh-place finishes (2) and one eighth-place finishes (1).

The Tigers finished four points ahead of Huntington University, the only other NAIA school at the meet. NCAA Division III schools Rose-Hulman (132), Hanover (105) and Earlman (99) were the top three schools. NCAA Division II school Bellarmine University was fourth with 95 points.

Campbellsville will travel to Danville, Ky., April 3 for the Centre College Invitational.
